How is this different from a UUID generator?

A UUID has a fixed 36-character structure. Here you choose the length and alphabet freely.

Why exclude ambiguous characters?

Because l, 1, I, O and 0 are easily confused. Excluding them matters for any string a person reads from a screen or types by hand.

Can I use these as production secrets?

For placeholders and test data, yes. Real cryptographic secrets should be generated server-side with a proper library.

Is the randomness cryptographically sound?

It uses the browser's cryptographic random source rather than a simple pseudo-random function.

Are generated strings stored?
