About the Colour Extractor

This color extractor reads an image and returns its dominant colours as hex codes. It is the quickest way to match a design to a photograph, recover brand colours from a logo, or pull a palette out of a screenshot.

A color extractor solves the problem of matching something you can see but do not have values for. A client sends a logo as a PNG with no brand guide, a photograph needs a background that harmonises with it, or a competitor screenshot has a colour worth borrowing.

Rather than eyedropping single pixels — which gives you whatever compression artefact happened to land there — the image is analysed as a whole to find the colours that actually dominate it, returned as hex codes ready to paste.
