About the Currency Formatter

This currency formatter turns a plain number into a properly formatted amount for a chosen locale, applying the correct symbol, symbol position, decimal separator and thousands grouping for that region.

A currency formatter does more than add a symbol, because formatting an amount correctly is more involved than it looks. Locales differ on where the symbol sits, whether the separator is a comma or a full stop, how digits are grouped, and how many decimal places the currency uses.

The differences bite in practice. Germany writes 1.234,56 € where the United States writes $1,234.56 — the separators are swapped, which means a naive string replacement produces a number wrong by a factor of a thousand. Indian grouping is 12,34,567 rather than 1,234,567.

Decimal places are per-currency, not universal. The Japanese yen has none, so ¥1000 is right and ¥1000.00 is wrong; Kuwaiti dinar uses three. Formatting here follows the locale and currency conventions rather than assuming two decimals everywhere.
