About the EXIF Viewer

This EXIF viewer reads the metadata embedded in a photograph — camera and lens, exposure settings, timestamp and any GPS coordinates. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

An EXIF viewer shows what a camera wrote into an image alongside the pixels. Make and model, lens, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, the exact time the shutter fired, and on a phone almost always the GPS coordinates.

That last field is a genuine privacy issue. A photograph taken at home and posted publicly can carry the coordinates of the house, and most people have no idea the data is there. Checking before sharing is worth the ten seconds — and many platforms strip EXIF on upload, but not all of them, and not always.

For photographers the same data is useful in the other direction: recovering the settings behind a shot that worked. Because the file is read locally, checking a private photograph does not involve uploading it to anyone.
