A text analyzer that includes lexical diversity tells you something the counts alone cannot. The type-token ratio — unique words divided by total words — measures vocabulary variety, and a low figure usually means a phrase is being repeated far more than the writer noticed.
The measure has one caveat worth knowing: it falls naturally as text gets longer, because common words inevitably recur. So compare it between passages of similar length rather than treating any absolute number as good or bad.
