About the Letter Counter
This letter counter tallies each letter of the alphabet in a text, with vowel and consonant totals and a visual distribution chart. Case is folded together and punctuation, digits and spaces are excluded, so the counts reflect letters rather than characters.
A letter counter answers a narrower question than a character counter: how the alphabet is distributed in a piece of text. It ignores punctuation, digits and spaces, and folds upper and lower case together, so A and a count as the same letter.
That makes it the right tool for word games and teaching. Scrabble and Wordle players check which letters they hold; teachers use the distribution to demonstrate that language is not random; and the vowel-to-consonant ratio is a quick guide to whether a letter set is playable at all.
