An age calculator matters where precision does: forms that ask for age in months, eligibility cut-offs, pension or benefit dates, visa applications, and any calculation involving a child under two where "one year old" is far too coarse.
Getting it right is harder than subtracting years. Months have different lengths, leap years add a day, and someone born on 29 February has no birthday in three years out of four. The calculation here works from the actual calendar rather than approximating a year as 365 days.

Frequently asked questions
Why not just subtract the years?
Because that is wrong for most of the year. Someone born in December is not 30 in January simply because the year numbers differ by 30. Age is counted in completed years, then the remaining months and days on top.
How are leap years handled?
By counting real calendar dates rather than assuming a fixed year length, so a 29 February birthday works correctly and no drift accumulates across decades.
Can I get an age as of a past or future date?
Yes. The reference date defaults to today but can be set to anything, which is what you want for a form asking for age at a particular deadline or on a policy start date.
What are the total figures for?
Total days, weeks, months and hours are the same age expressed in one unit throughout. They are the useful ones for milestones — a 10,000th day, for instance — where the years-months-days form does not help.
